Motorway haiku

.

.

pylons and earthworks
secrets soundtrack the journey
endless number plates

bird of prey hovers
over the race track’s neighbour
I feel its talons

the wind turbines churn
like the workings of my mind
cogs in need of oil

I am passing you
the yearning heart diverts left
body travels on

look into the past
the room in which we last met
I wish us back there

I sail the river
criss-crossing my way to you
there is no short-cut

wakes of lorry spray
wash the windscreen of my love
I wipe away tears

motorway haiku
what else can a yearning heart do
but go on beating
